Our Journey Back to Health!

Part 2

We are in the very capable and caring hands of Dr. Julie Montgomery and the Team at Holistic Therapy Center in Taft, TN.

After sharing our health woes with Dr. Julie, she recommended we do a session with her and let her test Jim and see if she could make his life better.  We were ready for a change, ready to get well, and start living.  Jim was ready and surprisingly willing to do what Dr. Julie said.

She gave us a list of foods.  A 90%/10% plan.  We were to eat the foods on the top list 90% of the time and the things on the lower list only 10% of the time.  Jim was to not eat meat, chicken, or fish for 120 days.  That was how long it would take for his system to clean up and rebuild itself.  You see meat and heavy protein items are very acidic.

Wow, that was hard for both of us.  We had gotten to a point with our health where we both didn’t feel like cooking.  Jim loves his meat.  We didn’t eat a lot of veggies and very little fruit.  We also loved desserts and coffee.  Oops, no desserts, sugar, or coffee.  No Soda’s, or Milkshakes!  Ouch!

Well, we felt we could do anything for 120 days and our Health was important.

fruits and veggies Our Journey to Health and WellnessSo we started on this journey to health.  It was very hard on Jim at first, even though he was enjoying the great salads, and smoothies. We weren’t going hungry, but we were going through withdrawal from eating out.  Actually we were eating like kings, but it was just different.  I was having to really study what to do and not do; how to cook for Health and prepare more raw, steamed, and juiced stuff.

God is good and has a sense of humor too.  You heard about the Tornado in Alabama during this last few weeks.  Now it was a Terrible Tornado and many lost their homes and some their lives.  We were blessed, and our home was left intact.  Praise the Lord.

However, the power went out and was out for several days.  That was a challenge, how do you prepare health foods like we needed.  We couldn’t do smoothies.  But we managed to do alright.  As the power outage continued, our freezer was thawing out.  When the power finally came on, we threw out all the steaks, chicken, fish, etc in the Freezers and much of what was in the refrig.  That took care of much of our temptations. icon smile Our Journey to Health and Wellness

Our daughter had been trying to get us to clean everything we shouldn’t be eating for a long time. And finally we had to do it.  So we went shopping for all the healthy things we should be eating.

Let me tell you this wasn’t a cheap situation.  When you go to a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, if you have health insurance, the costs are minimal, but when you go to a Dr. of Holistic Medicine, you have to pay for it.  But let me tell you it is worth it!!!  What is your life worth, “Everything”.  Jim and my health was going downhill fast.  We were both being over medicated and eating ourselves to death.

Dr. Julie had my attention, I wanted my husband back.  I also wanted my life back.  She said she knew that most wives put their families first, but that I needed to take steps to get my health back as well, so I am also being treated by her and their team.

Bottomline, we are a month into all this and……   Drum Roll ……. Health is Returning.

I have my husband back. He is up and dressed at 7:30 am and ready to do something.  He is alert, energetic. I can’t find him, he is out trimming trees, or cleaning out the garage. He still has the burning from the radiation, but it is slowly getting better.  They really did a number on him.  We are slowly weaning him off all his medicines.  I am already off all of mine.  We feel soooo much better than we have felt in such a long, long time.  We have already lost about 10 lbs each and many other things are getting better with our bodies.

If you are interested in any of this or you know someone that is struggling with their health issues, please stay tuned as I report to you our progress and experience.  Please refer this post/article to those that could benefit from this.  Change someone’s life today, do it quickly.  This is so good.

Stay tuned for my next post where I will share with you what I am learning and what I Recommend.  You will be able to witness our Before and After Health Stories.

The best way to create a habit (or break a bad one) is to do the same thing for 28 days. Once you make it past the first month, it is easier to keep doing whatever it is you are “imprinting”. I know for some, the 28 days is not enough and that it may take three to four months to break a long term habit.
Keep up the journey! I am sure it will surprise you just how big of a change you will experience once you complete the first 120 days :-)

Thanks for the encouragement Mark. This is a Journey and I know we didn’t get in this shape overnight and it will take some time to get back to health. We are already feeling so much better.

Kathy great info, people don’t realize until they are very sick to change there eating habit and have to really work on it, people like to have a quick fix overnight and we know that is not going to happen. I’m in my mid 50′s and don’t take any medication trying to do the best for my health.

    Thanks,
    Agnes

Thank you, Kathy. My wife and I are just starting a holistic healing journey in an attempt to deprive her the joys of Rheumatoid Arthritis. We were pointed towards a very great, Christian Doctor who has given us the hope we haven’t had for the last 6 months.
The biggest problem was finding out what it was that was attacking her. We now have a very bright outlook for our future.
By the way, where is Taft, Tn? Close to the big town of Englewood?

    • Kathy Clark on May 24, 2011

Hello Tony, thanks for the comments. So glad to hear you are on a better path for your wife’s healing.
Taft, TN is close to Fayetteville, TN. South Central part of TN. Very beautiful part of the country.

You are so right Mark, it is amazing how just 1 month has made improvements. We will be new people by 120 days.

    Hi there Kathy,
Well I thought I would come and leave you a comment.
I am sure what you are both doing on your way of life and the food is not easy. I my self do not or would not eat many salads. But to be fair I am also coming down in the weight so for me also that is good and needed. But I wish you both well and of course you keep it all going my friend. If you have found the thing for you, do not stop.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step…and continues with the next step, and the next, and the next…
Congrats to both of you, first for making a CHOICE to get well, and to take responsibility for yourselves. Second, for working TOGETHER.
Keep up the great work! and we’ll look forward to hearing more of the results.

Hello Dr. Jon, Thanks for stopping by, I always appreciate your comments. This is a Journey and that begins with the first step.

Congratulations on your new way of living!

I know how you felt. Years ago I had a problem with Candida, and had to drastically alter my diet. It was hard. But after awhile you get used to it and it’s not so difficult any more. I eat very little meat and lots of fruit and veggies. My ‘dessert’ usually consists of one strip of an 85% dark chocolate bar. I bought ice cream a couple of weeks ago – the first in many months. I feel much better eating healthier foods. When I had my cataract surgery post-op routine they couldn’t believe that at 66 I am not on any medications. They said I was so healthy I didn’t need the blood work!

Fasting has also been a good way for me to detox and to lose weight. We had 21 days of fasting and prayer at church in January and I extended it to 40 days. I drank water, carrot juice, vegetable juice, fruit juice and almond milk but ate no solid food. But mostly I drank water. I lost 16 pounds of which I have re-gained 6-8 pounds. Except for my clothes not fitting too well at times I feel much better.

Hope everything is still working well for you and your husband.

Diane thanks for the comments. I agree with you, eating healthy is the way to go and when we slip back to old ways of eating you quickly realize you don’t feel well. Our recent blood work was reviewed by our Doctors and they were very happy with our results and said to keep up the good work. I thought they were really going to have a fit that we weren’t taking all those meds they ad prescribed. Jim’s Cancer seems to be gone, Praise the Lord. So glad you are eating healthy foods and keeping yourself Healthy.
